What are the best toys for your child?

Every child needs toys that are designed for his age and are appropriate to the child’s interest. As children go through the different growth periods we need to observe them and work with them to find out what their particular needs are. Introduce any toy in a simple manner the child can understand and move on to the more complex ideas no matter what the age of the child.

For example:

Puzzles can be frustrating for a child if he cannot do them. So start out with the very simple puzzle (10 or less piece) and increase the quantity of pieces as the child’s interest and understanding gets heightened (25 pieces, 50 pieces, 100 pieces, etc). Be excited when you work on a puzzle with your child. Taking turns in finding pieces creates a cooperative environment.

Lost pieces can be discouraging for a child, so store your puzzles on a shelf and remove them if the puzzles are incomplete. Puzzles are very good for children because they teach problem solving, a personal tool they will need for the rest of their life. By doing puzzles often we learn to cooperate and experience the triumph of not giving up.
